Post-Apocalyptic Cincinnati (Episode 3)

I went with something a little different this time.  In reality I don't really think this place would work out.  This complex would hold a huge population, but there are several drawbacks to the location.  The biggest being the lack of access to water, which is almost deal breaker right away.

The structures above are renovated dormitories at the University of Cincinnati.  When I attended classes there, these were absolute dumps.  Obviously, they look much better now.  Securing a population in these towers would be fairly simple.  Secure the bottom floor and riflemen, along with booby traps, on the roof would certainly help deter attackers.

The large surface area of the roofs could help with water collection.  It would take quite a bit, but a series of barrels, gutters channeling the water down, etc. could get a good amount during a rain.  Depending on rain can be bad though and this area is several miles from the river.

The area above could be used as farm land by clearing out these trees.  While the entire area would be difficult to completely secure, there are plenty of tall buildings in the area to use as lookouts with rifleman.

Using the above picture to highlight the buildings surrounding the area.  There would be plenty of storage room and areas for expansion if more people moved in.  I'm no engineer, but I wonder if the storm water run off in the sewers could be captured someone.  There has to be a way to populate areas like this.

Above is Burnet Woods.  There is a lake in the park that is fairly big, but I just feel that if you had too many people you would deplete it too quickly.  It's something though, but hauling water back and forth would be tedious.  Another good thing about the park is that there are animals like squirrel and deer there at times, but once again, with a large group of people this probably wouldn't last.

In conclusion, this would not be a good place to settle in my opinion.  Anyone think otherwise?

Draft is finished for Days Since... Battle for River's Edge: Day 995

Hey! Hey! I'm very excited to announce that the first draft for the fourth installment in the Almawt Virus series is finished. It took me just over 3 months to complete it, and I'm hoping, HOPING, that it won't take me nearly as long to clean it up. So... in celebration, here is the cover reveal for the newest book Days Since... Battle for River's Edge: Day 995

Days Since... Day 995: Battle for River's Edge

Just finished the in-depth chapter outline for the newest book in the Almawt Virus Series. It takes place right at the conclusion of book 3. The story line follows the three main characters from the first books in the series in alternating POVs from chapter to chapter. As it's set up now, it will be nearly 100 pages longer than the other books. I'm very excited to get this project started!!!

A Very Good Time to Breathe...

Finally finished Days Since... Thomas: Day 758 and revised Days Since... Xavier: Day 853. A lot of work went into finishing these books. Moving Xavier from book one to book two was easier than I thought it would be. (If you have already read Xavier, there is no need to read it again. I did not change any major points. I added a few scenes and changed the prologue. This was done to try and make the beginning more engaging.) It took a while, but I feel both of these books are very clean and the formatting looks great. Thomas flows right into Xavier and I love the change, from the point of the reader, from being a part of the Second Alliance to switching to the other vantage point. I have started on the third book. The opening of Chapter 1 is a lot of fun, and I've tried to add a few new elements to it. I'm trying to write in a few little twists to keep it fresh and keep people guessing toward the end of the series, which I suspect will be 5 books in total. Thanks for stayin
