The rough draft for the next book in the series Days Since... should be finished soon, and I'm hoping to have the final released late this year.  I appreciate everyone for being patient in this endeavor.  Writing is a hobby for me, although someday I would like it be much more.  It is difficult at times juggling family, work, life, etc.  I'm very excited for this book.  I think it's going to be much better than my first.

Back to the Ohio River.  On the last episode of this little Post-Apocalyptic Cincinnati thing the biggest issue was water, so we're heading back downtown for easy access once again! Paul Brown Stadium is home to the Cincinnati Bengals.  The Stadium itself seems like it would be easy enough to defend.  You could post up a few snipers and have some pretty good coverage.  What I like about it is ability to sustain some electricity.  You could line the tops of the stadium with some makeshift windmills.  At that height, you should have some sustained winds that could keep it flowing.  Plus, being near the river helps with the wind sweeping through.  The field could be a solar panel field that would get sunlight throughout the entire day.   The land surrounding Paul Brown is perfect for planting crops.  It has easy access to water with the Ohio River being adjacent to it and running the entire length of the area.  The ...

I went with something a little different this time.  In reality I don't really think this place would work out.  This complex would hold a huge population, but there are several drawbacks to the location.  The biggest being the lack of access to water, which is almost deal breaker right away. The structures above are renovated dormitories at the University of Cincinnati.  When I attended classes there, these were absolute dumps.  Obviously, they look much better now.  Securing a population in these towers would be fairly simple.  Secure the bottom floor and riflemen, along with booby traps, on the roof would certainly help deter attackers. The large surface area of the roofs could help with water collection.  It would take quite a bit, but a series of barrels, gutters channeling the water down, etc. could get a good amount during a rain.  Depending on rain can be bad though and this area is several miles from the river.  ...

Mill Creek Pump Station The Mill Creek Pump Station looks awesome. It's made of brick and concrete, so you know its sturdy and is surrounded by a "moat" (kind of). It's in a relatively open area, so guards would be able to see any large force moving in. The easy access to water would assist in crop production and make it easier to gather drinking water. (Although, at one point the Mill Creek was considered one of the most polluted waterways in America.) Clean it up!!! The facade of this place looks really cool. It almost looks like a dam. Happy Fourth of July!  I can only hope that our country will continue to be the best in the world.  We have our faults, but never forget how much freedom you really have.  Thanks to all who serve, have served, and will serve in the future to ensure that our country stays great!

As I've been writing my book series Days Since... I constantly seem to be on the lookout for new ideas for post-apocalyptic fortresses around Cincinnati.  The book series is based in Cincinnati, so I try to come up with ideas that fit into the scene.  (Even though River's Edge Academy is completely fictional I like to have some real places sprinkled into my stories)  With all that being said I thought it would be fun to snap a few photos of places around Cincinnati that might be a good place to hole up and begin the rebuilding of humanity. I drive past this place on Kellogg Ave. fairly often.  As you can see, it's a beast:  a huge concrete wall that surrounds the entire building, some pretty hefty gates, and overall its a really big building.  The proximity to the river is a plus too--one less side to guard and WATER!!!  This place is really locked down, so I'm not sure what exactly is in it.  It's an old pumping station that I believe i...
